Meditating with Movement

I want to share a short meditation you can follow while you run or walk.

Before you start running/walking

  • Begin by setting an intention that brings lightness and ease not only to your run but to the rest of the day.

While running/walking

  • Notice your entire body moving through space and feel the space around you.
  • Rest your attention in that open space while you move.
  • Do this for 1 or 2 minutes and then run/move as usual for 5-10 minutes.
  • Then, relax your shoulders and allow your arms and legs to move with lightness.
  • Again, notice your entire body moving through space and rest your attention in that open space while you move.
  • Do this without putting effort for 1 or 2 minutes, and then continue or finish your run or walk as you normally would.

Ask yourself and reflect on this exercise: how does bringing awareness to your body while moving affect your mental state?
